Check for training and certification.Florida does not license hypnotherapists. Anyone can claim to be one. Most skilled practitioners are certified by a reliable organization. Pavel Dmitriyev is certified by the prestigious National Guild of Hypnotists, National Board of Hypnosis and Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming as well as seven other training programs. Find someone you feel comfortable with. I offer a free initial consult. At our first session, there's a 20-minute introduction. After that, if you're not 100% certain you want to move forward, or if I'm not positive I can help you, leave with my best wishes.
Make sure your therapist is up-front about the process and what you are getting for your money. I charge a flat fee per session (with multi-session discounts). The first session is 90 minutes. The rest run between 45-90 minutes, varying from person to person and session to session. Some people promise relief in "just one session." Other therapists will keep clients coming for dozens of appointments. I believe you should see some improvement in 1-2 sessions, with a maximum of 7-8. Of course, you may decide to come back for more because you enjoy the process so much, or because you choose to improve other areas of your life.
Beware of mystical trappings. Hypnosis used for therapy allows you to reach deep inside your inner mind. Often clients become aware of intensely moving, even spiritual, thoughts, desires and dreams. You want a hypnotherapist who respects your individual beliefs and will not impose their own.
